Lightroom Catalog Import Error Solution Fix

I recently tried to import some old Lightroom 3 catalogs into my current archive and found that I kept getting the same error message ‘Lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error’ After attempting to try and fix the problem, I found this effective solution on Joe Reifers blog. Essentially before importing a catalog, any offline or missing images must either be removed or brought back online in the catalog you wish to import. Offline or missing images can be found easily by using – Libray > Find Missing Images. Once the missing images are removed or brought back online. The old catalog can be imported into a new or alternative catalog.

Approachable Corporate Portrait

I often get asked to produce portraits which are friendly and approachable especially corporate portraits. Traditionally these tended to be be very formal boardroom, desk type shots with very little character.

The need to have web profiles, avatars and press releases has contributed to the style of these portraits changing. There is often a limited amount of time to shoot many subjects in a variety of poses and with multiple backgrounds. My preferred method to make best use of  limited time is to use the existing daylight when available and filing shadows with reflectors. This allows a fast turnaround of location background and subject poses. Below are examples of available and artificial light portraits all taken using interior office locations or nearby exterior locations, sometimes with many changes of location. Very often portraits are produced during conferences or between board meetings.

Online Client Gallery

It is now possible for clients to view images after a photo shoot online without downloading any files. Full resolution files can be selected and shared with the lightbox facility. In addition to commercial commissioned work, the online gallery serves as an archive for stock images available for purchase under licence. As well as the purchase of prints and images with a personal use licence. Take a look at the gallery site!

The site is straightforward to use and provides facilities to share galleries and images via facebook, twitter and email. The lightbox feature is particularly useful to create a selection of favourite images which can be shared between registered users. It can also serve as a means to order or download full resolution image files. Please contact Alex Orrow directly to discuss the great benefits of an online gallery to archive and share your images.
